Back To Basic Discipline

Sometimes we need to refresh our strides as we go about our daily purposes and one of the ways to do it is to indulge in something which was a necessity in our fundamental years. If I should choose that one thing it would be food for the mind which can be found in Memory Gems. Memory Gems are priceless verses filled with words of wisdom. They help us to keep sober minds and thoughts. They comfort and guide us. They teach us to be honest, loving, kind and to persevere. They help us in our deportment. Memory Gems are also the tools for success, health and wealth and I am happy that they were introduced to me during my infant years.

Enjoy the works of some of the notable poets who have left their indelible marks with us.

Speak the truth and speak it ever
Cost it what it will
He who hides the wrong he did
Does the wrong thing still

****

Kind words are little sunbeams
That sparkle as they fall
And loving smiles are sunbeams
A light of joy to all
In sorrow’s eye they dry the tear
And bring the fainting heart good cheer

****

Kind hearts are the gardens
Kind thoughts are the roots
Kind words are the blossoms
Kind deeds are the fruits

****

He who ruleth well his heart
And keeps his temper down
Acts a better wiser part
Than he who takes a town

****

Trip lightly over trouble
Trip lightly over wrong
We only make them double
By dwelling on them long
Trip light over sorrow
Though this day may be dark
The sun will shine tomorrow
And gaily sing the lark

****

The heights of great men reached and kept
Were not attained by sudden flight
But they while their companions slept
Were toiling upward in the night

****

Be kind and be gentle to those who are old
For kindness is better than silver and gold
Silver and gold will vanish away
But a good education will never decay

****

Bits of paper bits of paper lying on the floor
Make the place untidy
Pick them up pick them up

****

Good better best
Never let it rest
Till your good be better
And your better best

****

Little fingers were not made to pinch and tear
But to move in deeds of kindness
And to fold in thoughts of prayer

****

Tah-tah! Learning begins at any age.

  2. Mommy used to drum speak the truth and speak it ever into my head so that one will stay with me to the grave..but maybe our society would be better off if those were passed on to this generation...no doubt

  3. Labour for learning before you grow old
'cause learning is better than silver and gold
Silver and gold will vanish away
But a good education will never decay.

That's the version I learned in school.
    Nice post anyway

  5. “If you in the morning
    Throw minutes away,
    You can't pick them up
In the course of a day.
    You may hurry and scurry,
    And flurry and worry,
    You've lost them forever,
    Forever and aye.”

    ― Anna Sewell

    Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend.
    William Shakespeare
"Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive." Sir Walter Scott
